Some of the tasks that you can perform by using VMConnect include the following:. Virtual floppy disks are not supported for generation 2 virtual machines.

Not having enhanced session mode turned on may pose a security and privacy risk. If a user is connected and logged on to a virtual machine through VMConnect and another authorized user connects to the same virtual machine, the session will be taken over by the second user and the first user will lose the session.
The second user will be able to view the first user's desktop, documents, and applications. To do this, you may need to turn on enhanced session mode on the Hyper-V host.
For more information, see Turn on enhanced session mode on Hyper-V host. Keyboard shortcuts By default, the keyboard input and mouse clicks are sent to the virtual machine.

When you connect a virtual machine to a network, it is assigned an IP address from the network's predefined private IP address pool.
By default, gateways are deployed with firewall rules configured to deny all network traffic to and from the virtual machines on the gateway networks. Also, NAT is disabled by default so that gateways are unable to translate the IP addresses of the incoming and outgoing traffic. You must configure both firewall and NAT rules on a gateway for the virtual machines on a gateway network to be accessible. Attempting to ping a virtual machine on a network after configuring a NAT rule will fail without adding a firewall rule to allow the corresponding traffic.Furuno logo
Verify that you have network administrator privileges. Locate the virtual machine to be connected. If you are a virtual infrastructure administrator, click the virtual data center that contains the virtual machine and the Virtual Machines tab. If you are a end user, in My Virtual Machines, select the virtual machine. If the virtual machine is powered on, select it and click Power Off. Click the virtual machine name. Click the Networks tab. If the virtual machine is not connect to a network, click Add a Network.
Otherwise, click Edit Network Assignments. Select a gateway network from the list of networks. You can select more than one network to which to connect the virtual machine. When selecting more than one network for the virtual machine, specify the virtual machines primary network by click the Primary NIC option for that network. By default, the primary network is set to the first network you selected for the virtual machine. Click Save. Create a NAT rule to translate the external network address and internal network address of the virtual machine so that it can receive network traffic from the Internet.
Create a firewall rule to allow the gateway to send and receive Internet traffic for the virtual machine. This is great because if you have multiple copies of VMware on different computers, you either had to clone your VM or you had to store your VMs in a central location like on a NAS.
However, neither of those two options are necessarily ideal, especially if you have one high-end machine that you are using to run all your VMs.
A clone will take up double the space and the clones will not be synced. Running VMs over the network is considerably slower and not ideal.

By setting up Workstation as a server, you can access the same virtual machine from different computers and use the processing power of the server to run the VM. However, in my case, it was disabled for some reason and I had to manually enable it. To check this, open Workstation and then click on tab of the VM you want to share.
Then click on VM at the top menu, then on Manage and then on Share. If you see the following message, that means the Workstation Server service is disabled.
You can click on Start, type in services and then scroll down to the VMware Workstation Server service. In my case, it was set to Manual and it was not running. Simply double-click on the service and click on the Start button to start the service. Also, go ahead and change the startup type to Automatic to ensure that it starts after a reboot. On this screen, you have to give your shared virtual machine a name and you have to choose whether you want to move it to the default shared directory or if you want to clone the whole virtual machine.
Note : When you share a virtual machine, you gain and lose some features. Click Finish and the process should complete fairly quickly. To access your shared VM remotely, you need to know the IP address of the computer acting as the server. You can do this easily by clicking on Starttyping in CMD and then typing ipconfig in the command window.
Now go to the other computer that has VMware Workstation installed and click on the Home tab. The server name can be either the IP address or the hostname of the computer. The username and password needs to be of a local administrator account on the server computer.
If you are logged into that computer using your Microsoft account, you can use that login info to connect. When connecting, you may see a dialog that warns you about the security certificate on the server.
This is normally not a security issue as long as you trust that computer and you can click on Connect Anyway. If all works well, you should see the following screen in a new tab. At the bottom, you should see all the virtual machines that you are currently sharing.
In my case, I only shared one Windows 10 virtual machine. Click on it and then click the green play button to power it on. You can also right click on it to start it. Note that once it is powered on, you still have to right-click on it and choose Open to view the remote VM in a new tab.Joinsubscribers and get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles.
By default, virtual machines do not have access to files on the host computer or on other virtual machines. If you want to provide that access, you must set up shared folders in your virtual machine app. The guest operating system accesses a folder on your PC just like it would a shared folder on a network.
This inserts a virtual CD that you can use within the guest operating system to install the Guest Additions. There are two types of shared folders.
You should now see the shared folders appear as network file shares. This opens a dialog prompting you to download the tools and, when finished, inserts a virtual CD that you can use within the guest operating system to install the VMWare tools. Shared folders are disabled by default, and you can enable them in one of two ways. By default, the virtual machine will have full read-write access to the folder. Be careful when using shared folders, though.
